As soon as we arrived we were on our way to the Beach Pool. |
| Dana at the best swim-up bar on the planet. |
The service staff included longtime standards like Tomas and new additions like Diana. |
| |
| At the top of the list was Antonio. He just knew to proactively keep me supplied with Pacifico Claro...I was often startled to look up and see I had a full cup of beer where a moment ago had been an empty one. |
Dana basking. |
Dana is definitely the serious photographer out of the two of us. |
I got a few shots of her, but for the majority of images from this trip she was behind the camera instead of in front of it.
That's the main reason there are a lot more pictures of me than there are of Dana. |
| A beautiful, peaceful place. |

| This shot is one of my favorites from this trip. |

| "Look, Ma, no hands!" |
| Glug, glug. |
We stayed late at the Beach Pool the first day, getting some wonderful sunset images. |
| Back in the condo... |
| ..and then back at the pool bar. This was the scope of our trip. |

We befriended some very nice Canadians from Vancouver. Here I'm talking with Robert and Lorie. |
Robert's sense of humor turned out to be even more groaningly pun-based than my own - difficult to believe, but true. |
Lorie's wife Rose. |
This young couple had flown in from new York. Unbeknownst to Stephanie, her boyfriend Sean had made elaborate plans to propose to her that evening. |
Sean was very excited about proposing. He couldn't stop talking about it - by the time these pictures were taken, everyone at the pool except Stephanie had been clued in that she would get the question that night. |
The next day we learned her answer was yes. |
Beer-and-a-book. Life is good. |
This drink was called a "Cocoloco," made using the juice and shell of coconuts freshly cut from a tree next to the pool. |
One of those dangerous drinks containing about 6 kinds of liquor and tasting merely delicious. I limited myself to two for the entire trip. |
Sunrise images back in the room. |

Wednesday morning we noticed a distinct change in the character of the surf. It was more intense, and was coming into the shore at an odd angle. |
| |
| A bit of investigation (via the unsecured wireless Internet connection we surreptitiously accessed) told us that Hurricane Norbert was on its way, due to hit Baja the day we were scheduled to depart. |
| As time passed the surf grew more and more violent, although the clear skies and warm sun belied the approaching tempest. |
| |
| Since neither of us could risk being delayed in our return, we changed our travel plans and left Thursday instead of Saturday. |
| This fishing boat was out in the water, very close to shore. The swells were to large that is became a game of "Now you see it..." |
"...and now you don't."
Seemed a little reckless to us, but that could just be us. |
We'll be back next year! |
